Two students recognised in AoC Student of the Year Awards

Two Barnsley College students have been recognised as runners up in their categories at this year’s Association of Colleges Student of the Year Awards.

Presley Beckham was named Runner Up for Higher Education Student of the Year, sponsored by QAA. Harry Clayton was awarded Runner Up for Apprentice of the Year, sponsored by the Association of Colleges.

Presley, who is currently studying for a foundation degree, has shown exceptional determination and personal growth. Despite facing significant personal challenges, he has become a source of inspiration to his peers. Presley is passionate about becoming a zookeeper and has a particular interest in exotic species. His tutor, Tristen Greenwood, praised his resilience and dedication to his studies.

Harry works at E and S Swift in Barnsley and recently completed his Level 3 apprenticeship with the College. His tutor, Chris Sherratt, commended the dedication and innovative thinking he has shown throughout his programme, describing his approach as “far beyond his years”.

Barnsley College Principal and CEO David Akeroyd said: “Harry and Presley have achieved something remarkable and the entire College is incredibly proud of them.

“To receive two awards across just five categories, that are open to students nationally, is no small feat. Being named runners up in these national awards reflects the drive, resilience and professionalism they bring to their studies and their work every day.

“They continue to set high standards for themselves and for those around them. Their success embodies the ambition we encourage in all our students, and it is very inspiring to see them recognised at this level.”
