Performing Arts staff and students collaborate on music video for local folk band

Barnsley College staff and Performing Arts students have joined forces with South Yorkshire alternative folk band Common Culture to create the official music video for the band’s new single, It’s Gonna Work Out.
Common Culture is a four-piece, alternative folk band featuring Barnsley College staff Daniel Watson, vocals and guitar, and Lizzie Morris, vocals and fiddle. The band describes its sound as upbeat, energetic and rooted in both traditional and contemporary influences.
The new single is taken from the band’s upcoming album of the same name, with the official music video filmed at Barnsley College’s dance studio.
Performing Arts students Katie Ludditt and William Ellie were invited to take part in the filming process, working alongside members of the band and Performing Arts tutor Gemma Nixon. The video was directed and edited by local filmmaker Jacob Fox.
The project gave the students valuable insight into the creative and professional processes involved in music video production, including performance, collaboration, filming and media production within a real-world creative project.
Katie said: “I loved filming the music video. It was a great experience and I loved getting a glimpse into professional work. It was great to help out our teachers.”
William Ellis added: “I really enjoyed doing the music video as it was my first proper time doing acting for camera. It helped me understand the behind the scenes aspect of acting on screen, which will help me in the future”
Lizzie Morris, from Common Culture, said: “We were incredibly grateful for the students’ enthusiasm and contribution, and it was fantastic to collaborate with Barnsley College on a project that showcases local music and creative talent.”
The finished music video for It’s Gonna Work Out is available to watch on Common Culture’s YouTube channel.
