Schools, Colleges and Community Liaison Team
We are the Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) team, supporting all students in their search for Further Education, Higher Education, Full-time and Part-time studies. We work closely with schools, colleges and community groups and can provide one-to-one support for potential applicants. Whether you are a school or Further Education provider, find out how we can support you.
If you are a school student, a parent or a carer, you can find the advisor linked to your school by visiting the Meet the IAG Team page. You can contact us with any questions and arrange visits if you want to speak in-depth about your options after Year 11.
If you’re aged 19 or over and looking for support with your educational journey, our team is here to help you take that next step. Whether you’re thinking about returning to education after some time away, aiming to gain higher-level qualifications, or wanting to start a new career or progress further in your current role, we’re here to support you along that journey.
We can help you find the right course and provide advice tailored specifically to your needs. Explore our Adult and Part-Time or Higher Education courses to discover the opportunities available. Alternatively, feel free to drop into our Old Mill Lane campus, attend a drop-in session or visit one of our stalls at a community event for friendly guidance and practical advice.
Working with Our Community in Barnsley
We’re proud to be actively involved in the Barnsley community and are continuing to expand the ways we offer Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) to local residents, community groups and partners. Our aim is simple: to make education, training and career advice easy to access, friendly and relevant to your goals no matter where you are. .
Community Events and Local Groups
We love getting out into the community and welcome opportunities to attend events across Barnsley. This includes local fairs, community open days and sessions run by voluntary and community organisations.
By attending community events, we can connect directly with local residents, talk about the wide range of courses available at Barnsley College, and explore how education and training could support individuals, groups and the valuable work already taking place in the community.
If you’re hosting a community event and would like our Schools, Colleges and Community Liaison Team to attend, we’d be delighted to hear from you. You can contact them by emailing: info@barnsley.ac.uk or calling 01226 216 123.

IAG Stalls at Community Venues
To make our support as accessible as possible, we also host Information, Advice and Guidance stalls at well‑known community venues across Barnsley, such as The Glass Works Barnsley and Barnsley Metrodome. These venues allow us to engage with adults, families and career‑changers in busy, accessible spaces, creating opportunities for people to find out more about learning, training and progression at Barnsley College.
