We are world leaders for numbers of Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts

We are thrilled that more than 100 Barnsley College staff members – the highest number of any institution worldwide – have been identified as ‘visionary educators’ by the global Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) Experts scheme.

Microsoft developed the programme to identify teaching staff who actively use technology to create inclusive, student-centred learning environments – preparing students for the future by embracing emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. MIE Experts must complete training and provide evidence to be accredited through a rigorous application process.

The College – which has also retained its Microsoft Showcase School status – has seen its number of MIE Experts double since January 2024, from 52 to 104.

The accreditation recognises educators who not only use Microsoft technologies, but work with Microsoft to ‘build connections through both global and local networks, and inspire innovation within their schools and communities’.

Their motivated approach to developing digital capabilities and embracing technology-enhanced learning has created a strong culture of collaboration and peer support.

“We are excited to grow this further in the upcoming year and remain committed to celebrating our teachers with full premium access to Copilot, ensuring they are rewarded for their dedication to innovation and professional growth.”
