Award win for first-of-its-kind training centre
Posted: 17/07/2025
We are delighted to announce our Modern Methods of Construction Training Centre, developed in collaboration with T3 Training and Development and Laing O’Rourke, has won a prestigious regional property award.
The centre, opened in November 2024 at our Honeywell campus, came out top of the Sustainability and Social Impact category at the South Yorkshire Property Awards.
It is the first purpose-built facility in the country to offer a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Construction Assembly Installation – teaching methods that are faster, safer and more efficient than traditional construction practice.
Barnsley College Principal and Chief Executive, David Akeroyd, said: “This award is recognition of all the ambition, hard work and collaboration that have gone into delivering the Modern Methods of Construction Training Centre.
“The training centre has been designed and built with the future in mind – recognising the growing need for more sustainable, efficient and safe construction practices, and creating opportunities for learners to gain industry-leading skills and qualifications.
“Our staff and partners, and of course, our students, deserve all the recognition coming their way – they are shaping the future of construction in our region and beyond.”
Modern methods of construction refer to construction and engineering solutions that have been manufactured offsite. Learners at the training centre are provided with the technical and digital skills to work with large-scale modular components in a safe and controlled environment, as they learn how to deliver sections of some of the UK’s largest infrastructure and construction projects.
