Administration Assistant Level 2 Apprenticeship
Course Overview
Administration Assistant Level 2 Apprenticeship
The Level 2 Administration Assistant Apprenticeship at Barnsley College is an excellent starting point for individuals aged 16 to 24 who want to begin a career in business and administration while earning a wage.
Designed for those new to the workplace, this apprenticeship develops the practical skills and knowledge needed to support the day-to-day running of a business. Apprentices will learn how to use digital systems, manage information, communicate effectively and work collaboratively as part of a professional team.
Delivered over approximately 12 months, the programme combines hands-on experience in the workplace with structured off-the-job learning, giving apprentices the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a real business environment. Throughout the apprenticeship, learners are supported by experienced trainers who provide regular guidance and help them develop the confidence and skills needed to succeed.
Training is delivered through Barnsley College, where apprentices have access to modern learning facilities, digital resources, library services and dedicated student support. Our experienced apprenticeship team also works closely with both apprentices and employers to ensure a positive and rewarding learning experience.
On completion, apprentices will have a strong foundation for progression into higher-level apprenticeships or a wide range of administrative and business support roles across a variety of industries.
Key subject areas include:
Business and administration fundamentals: understanding organisational structures, workplace procedures, policies and professional standards of behaviour.
Communication in the workplace: developing written and verbal communication skills, handling enquiries, responding to emails and working with colleagues and customers in a professional manner.
Digital and IT skills: using a range of office-based software and systems to input, manage and retrieve data, including documents, spreadsheets and internal databases.
Record keeping and information management: maintaining accurate records, handling confidential information and ensuring data is stored and used appropriately.
Planning and organisation: supporting day-to-day operations through effective time management, prioritising tasks and meeting deadlines.
Teamworking and workplace behaviours: building positive working relationships, demonstrating reliability, and working under supervision within established processes.
Throughout the programme, apprentices will apply their learning in the workplace, building a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates their competence in real job tasks such as data entry, document production, handling office communications and supporting business operations.
Learning is supported through regular training sessions, progress reviews and one-to-one coaching to ensure apprentices develop both their technical knowledge and professional behaviours required for success.
