An introduction to Games Design and Development is a meticulously curated program, designed to equip aspiring game designers with the essential knowledge and skills needed to kickstart a rewarding career in the dynamic gaming industry.
Introducing you to industry leading software such as Unreal Engine 5 and Unity alongside other applications used for games design such as Maya and Blender (this will be an introduction to those software’s only at this level).
The course is made up of three core units:
Digital Skills Career
This unit serves as the gateway to understanding the critical role of digital skills in today's rapidly evolving workforce. Delve into the intricacies of various job roles that demand digital proficiency, explore the key attributes valued by employers, and chart a strategic career trajectory aligned with your aspirations in the burgeoning digital economy.
Games Engines
Uncover the inner workings of game engines and unlock the secrets to harnessing their power in game development. Through hands-on exploration, you'll gain proficiency in navigating both 2D and 3D game engines, allowing you to conceptualize, plan, and execute captivating game projects with finesse and precision.
Games Design and Development

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.
If you are aged 16 - 19 and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which maybe added to your study programme, subject to approval from your chosen department.
If you're aged 19 or above and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths we can help. We offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
